Hello! I'm Kimberlee Hayward. Although a native of Colorado, I'm currently living in the Shenandoah Valley in Northern Virginia. When I'm not working, I love spending time with my family, being in nature, and reading. I also like going to this crazy old-style drive-in theatre near here (which is really goofy, I know!)
My career began when, as an 18 year old receptionist, I was asked if I'd like to "program computers." After literally asking what that meant—and how much more an hour it would pay (25 cents), I agreed. Although, apparently cheap labor, I had a rare blend of technical aptitude and interpersonal skills and the rest is history. I spent 15 years in IT, working for large and small companies including Oracle, Kaiser, and EDS.
In the mid 90s, I took the plunge and opened my own IT consulting business and quickly realized I needed to do some marketing... and just about as quickly, realized that I had no clue about how to market my self (or anything else for that matter). I began researching like crazy, applied my IT business analysis skills to "marketing", and over several years developed what is now the Brilliant Marketing!™ System and the Living Marketing Manual™. Of course it wasn't long before my business shifted from providing IT consulting services to providing marketing help to others since I had "cracked the code" for effective micro-business marketing and everyone really wanted to know how I did it.
I quickly became a much sought after marketing consultant (who'd a thought?), won several awards for print material design, was the small business marketing specialist on Denver’s KTLK The Business Beat program, and the only featured marketing expert for three consecutive years for the area’s largest Economic Development Center's Success Tracks seminars. Things were rolling great with one huge exception: my business owned me... I didn't own it - and something had to be done.
Consequently, when my family moved to Texas for other reasons, I joined the ranks of corporate America again, completed a bachelor's degree, and collected a nice steady paycheck and benefits for a while. However, I knew that my heart and soul were really in Brilliant Marketing!™ helping small and micro businesses "make it". It's not an exaggeration to say that at my core, I really felt a deep urging to bring Brilliant Marketing!™ to as many people as I could... as quickly as I could. It's such an amazing tool that sometimes I almost feel like I almost "channeled" it; that I have been given a gift, and with it a great responsibility to help those who need it most. (Spiderman... I feel your pain).
Finally, I took the plunge and the family and I moved out of Dallas and into a cabin in the Ozarks. The pictures below were taken there; it was really a beautiful, inspiring place to write, and I feel really lucky to have created that opportunity in my life. I spent 18 months there developing Brilliant Marketing!™ courses so that I could once again "hang up my shingle" and reach out and work with businesses, teaching them exactly how to market... how to hold on to their dreams... how to grow them... how to live with them. This time, with my intellectual capital documented and put into manuals and course work, I knew I would be able to own the business without it owning me!
So here I am now,excited to be providing you with this knowledge empowering you to market brilliantly... especially now, when the economy is unsure and you need to be able to rely on your own ingenuity and resources... whether it is to earn a little extra income through a hobby... or to earn the big bucks by creating a wonderfully lucrative business.
